Git has become one of the most essential part of our programming journey , But have you ever imagined the programming environment before git . Then programmers did not have version control , they had pen drive, email and super messy folder structure.
The Problem
Let’s imagine you and your friend has started to work on a project , you have copied the project in a pen derive and has started to work , you start keep saving backups like final, final_v2, latest_final, and the legendary final_final_done_final .But at the same time you friend has also started to make som changes of his own and there we go again , and we got another final_final_finaly_done_final ,,,
You and your friend has some how combined it and made it work for sometimes , then you both go home and again started to work , You notice that you friend has made some functions and there ae some problem and you start to add your Mega Mind brilliancy on the top of the problems but at the same time unknowingly to you, your friend was also using his genius Dexter level brain to solve the ruckus you make in your code , After beating all the problems you both starts to combine the project and suddenly everything crashes and burns ,,, and on the top of it, there is no back up .
Now imagine the same chaos in a team of 5 developers. Without a proper system, collaboration becomes guessing and panic. That’s why version control exists, it tracks every change, keeps a full timeline, prevents overwriting, and allows multiple people to work safely on the same codebase , so that you don’t have to say - “What changed?”, “Who changed it?”, or “How do we go back?
